I have used Father Dennision's information as a spring board to finding and verifing birth, marriage and death information on my ancestors. I marvel at the task he accomplished without computers. Wrong book

I thought I was purchasing the Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit River Region, 1701-1936, and was so excited to see it when it came. As it turned out it was a skimpy little book that had absolutely nothing to do with the book I ordered. I was absolutely livid, so I contacted the person I bought from and she refunded my money. I'm sure it was a mistake, but I don't know whose mistake it was. Anyway, there is not problem now.

As an amateur genealogist, I am always looking for new resources. Well, if you have family members who have roots in the French families of the Detroit-Monroe, Michigan (River Raisin) area, then you really must see these books. This area was an important part of New France, and French families have inhabited the area since 1701.

This book - in two volumes - contains information on French families and their descendents. There is an entry for each head (male) of each family, including birth and death dates, parents, date(s) of marriage(s), wives and their vital statistics, and children.

Overall, I found this to be a great resource. It contains a great deal of information on families, even those often ignored in other resources that I have seen. Now, as is too often the case with older resources, the author (Fr. Christian Denissen) tended to anglicize names. But, it nonetheless gives you a great leg-up in your research.

So, let me just say that I consider this to be an invaluable resource, one that any genealogist looking into the Detroit-Monroe area must see! I give this book my highest recommendations!

Set several months after the events of The Hawk In Winter, The Raven In Spring is a wild ride. Coran's life is spiraling out of control. As it does, he sinks further into depression and drinking. Coran isn't safe, however, and as he adjusts to his new life he becomes less able to realize it. He puts himself into further danger and Sol works to try to save the young man from himself.

Meanwhile, Maevan is being stalked by a nameless threat. Without something real to cling to, how is anyone to believe the danger she is in? It is then that Jorgan is called away home to his mother and her iron rule of the Second House. Alone with Raikar, Mae trains her mind to take on this new threat. But, the intimacy of the contact is overwhelming and Maevan could find herself lost in him.

One day Maevan's destiny will reveal itself, but only if she can survive that long.

The Raven in Spring was so intense, I couldn't sleep after I finished it. And I'm serious. I finished it round about 5,6 pm, and lying on my bed, I couldn't fall asleep, still thinking about Maevan, Jorgan, Raikar and all the other characters.

The Raven in Spring, somehow, was an improvement to the already absolutely astonishing The Hawk in Winter. Tensions increased, and the fine lines between relationships really started to show; this was where I found the devious facts that Bekah Clark hid in The Hawk in Winter.

Bekah Clark has shown that she knows how to resolve a love triangle. I felt that Coran and Meirei's instant love was a bit suspicious, but all the other relationships that formed had hidden clues I hadn't noticed in The Hawk in Winter. Bekah gave every character a happy ending, but obviously, I still want more.

I can't wait for The Peacock in Summer! If you haven't read any Bekah Clark yet I strongly urge you too! Do it NOW!

Not Pleased at all with this book.

I don't particularly care for series' but will sometimes read them although usually they can pretty much be stand-alone books. These Rise of the Hawk books don't end - they just quit. And Book 3 is not available. Hopefully, I will forget about this whole series when that book IS available. Will not read this author again.

About the Author
Richard L. Daft, Ph.D., is the Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Professor of Management and Principal Senior Lecturer in the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, where he specializes in the study of leadership and organization theory. Dr. Daft is a fellow of the Academy of Management and has served on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, and Journal of Management Education. He was associate editor-in-chief of Organization Science and associate editor of Administrative Science Quarterly. Dr. Daft has authored or co-authored 13 books, including The Executive and the Elephant, Organization Theory and Design, and Management. He also has authored dozens of scholarly articles, papers, and chapters, and he has published in the Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management; Accounting, Organizations and Society, Management Science, MIS Quarterly, and Organizational Behavior Teaching Review. Dr. Daft has received several government research grants in organization design, organizational innovation and change, strategy implementation, and organizational information processing. An active teacher and respected consultant, Dr. Daft has served as associate dean and helped manage a start-up enterprise. Expensive But Worth It

I bought this book for a class, and I did the deal where you buy the hard copy book and get the kindle version for $10. To do this, you just buy the hardcopy, and then after you check out, it will ask you if you want to buy the kindle version for $10.

I don't like to spend this kind of money on books, but I have to say it was well worth it. The book is very polished and extremely well-edited, so it makes learning important concepts (and preparing for class) very straightforward. If you absolutely can't afford the high price of this book (11th Edition), you may want to look for the 10th edition, which is much, much less expensive. I reviewed the 10th edition as well, and it is also very good. However, you will miss some of the recent case studies and other info that has been added in the 11th edition.

Very informative and easy to read.

I wouldn't normally write book reviews, but I found this book to be very informative without being dull. Had to purchase this book for a Master's course. Was skeptical at first, especially about the price. However, this book is written very well and Daft understands how to keep the reader engaged. Only issue is that the price is a little much, but most college books seem to be that way.

High quality, comprehensive coverage of organization theory

This book is easy to read, very informative and is well organized. Over the years I have encountered most of the organizational structures addressed in this book. What makes this book so valuable is the rationale for picking one structure over another, and how that structure helps or hinders in implementing your business strategy. Once you have gone through the material, the book makes for a great reference.
