The Thinner Aquinas

This book is "The Thinner Aquinas," a targeted text specifically focusing on Aquinas's political and ethical writings.
Incluced are obvious selections from Summa Contra Gentiles and Summa Theologica (Five Ways of God's Existence and Essay on Law), but also included are excerpts from "De Regimine Principum."
There are hidden treasures in the back, excerpts from backgound sources and essays that influenced and were influenced by Thomisitic thought.
This book is geared towards a poltical scientist and poltical philosopher. For the theologian or the philosopher, however, I would reccomed Penguin Classics "Selected Writings."

A truly excellent anthology of Thomistic thought

This is a truly excellent selection of Thomistic writing, both by the Angelic Doctor and his critics and modern-day followers. It is not only comprehensive on the subject of Aquinas's politics and ethics but it is a good introduction to Thomism and natural law theory in general. Mortimer Adler's spanking of Bill Moyers on the subject of objective ethics is worth the price of the book just by itself.

My first impression of the book is that even among textbooks which are horribly overpriced this shines as an example of why some

First I will say that this in no way reflects upon the exemplary service or low price of the provider of this book, Now that I have prefaced this review by stating that the company that provided me the book gave me 5 star service... the book itself is certainly not worth full price. My first impression of the book is that even among textbooks which are horribly overpriced this shines as an example of why some people who shouldn't be writing in the first place write textbooks regardless of their lack of talents. It hearkens to the old adage regarding those who can't do, teach. Apparently those who can neither do or teach write books about it. A perfect example is the chapter in which the exercises are to add words to "enhance coherence" in an already coherent sentence... or put another way to specify something that a normal person naturally infers from the provided sentences, additionally the author seems to muddle certain concepts related to issues such as clear and coherent. The word coherent includes clarity as a portion of its definition, in fact if a paragraph lacks clarity it is almost certain to lack coherence. I cannot help but believe there had to be a better book on the market that a teacher could use for this subject. Another point that I find lacking is that typically in English, a student is taught to use "economy of words", this text; however, seems to shun that advice and works under the premise that in technical writing you must expect every reader to be a dullard who is unable to connect two sentences into a common thread.

However, I will say that this book can cure insomnia, so it is not without some measure of worth if you have sleepless nights. Overall I would say that without appendices it should be a 400 page book or less, yet the writer used 600+ pages anyway.

Buy the printer version. Don't use this book on a Kindle, if you need it.

Terrible, terrible book. Boring. I've read similar books and they had a better view on how to write this information. I also hated the way it was set on my Kindle. I couldn't read anything because it was so small and I had to zoom in. then, when I tried to turn the page, it wouldn't let me because it was zoomed in. It constantly tried highlighting words when I was just trying to follow where I was reading. it was expensive too. i should've just bought the printed version. That's how bad this was.

Very Useful For Technical Writing Courses

A required book for a technical writing course I took, Technical Communication by Mike Markel is a surprisingly good reference. The examples are rich in detail allowing you to emulate the good format using your own information. Both major writing papers due in the course had equivalents found in the book, providing constant guidance for the structure and content needed to create a professional product. The exercises are mostly trivial in difficulty, with a few of them required an absurd amount of writing for such a short question. A good resource to have if you're learning technical writing.

My 5 year old loves this book. She thinks the polar bears are cute and silly and wants me to read it to her over and over again. We've had some fun times together with the book. I highly recommend it. She's starting to read it herself now.

Sangeeta Gautam is a Certified IBM Consultant for IBM Global Business Services, Business Analytics and Optimization (BAO). Sangeeta joined IBM (USA) in 2002 as a part of Pricewaterhouse Consulting acquisition, with rich international experience in the field of Information Technology. Since coming to IBM she has served as a Cognos Subject Matter Expert and has been teaching Cognos at IBM for last 5 years, along with consulting.

She has more than 10 years of hands-on experience working with Cognos and has worked as Technical Lead in both private and public sector projects. She took on multiple lead roles for IBM’s product design and development of WorkForce Analytics during its inception, working closely with the Cognos Software Development group. She was also co-presenter at the Cognos User Forum in Boston presenting with the Client the Cognos solution in Education industry and speaker at IBM’s Business Analytic Forum, Information on Demand.

Not for dummies

I thought this book was going to be from the beginning explaining everything related to IBM Cognos, but it does not show how to start and is for more somebody who already has experience, I kind of regret the money I paid for this book as I started reading and have not continue, not really the complete guide for me.

The book is the right for you if you are managing a Cognos project and need basic understadning of the tools but nothing more than that. If you are a Cognos developer with even a couple of months experience, you might not find even a sentance or two which you can take out of the book.

I thought I would be getting something to read that would inspire me and give me some ideas on how to build a life plan (as the title indicates)... instead what I got is a Kindle "book" that is only links to articles and blogs on his website.

Only $2.99 and I STILL want my money back. I feel ripped off.

Perfect for what I need

I am a long time reader of Deidre's blog, alwaysaddlove.com, and bought an advance copy of her new book. To say that I was pleasantly surprised would technically not be correct as I'm familiar with her style. Still, this is not the typical cookbook. Over the years I've acquired more than the normal share of "cuisine" books and have never tried my hand at more than a recipe or two from any of them. Deidre's book is very personal, funny, and - most importantly - extremely user friendly. As a working mother of two (one less than the author has), both of them well into the fussy stage, I found it perfect for what I needed, and we've already experimented with three recipes: Chicken Marsala, Penne Vodka, and Perfect Scallops. On deck is the fruit cup for Thanksgiving dinner. Keep up the good work, Deidre!

A Summer Reading Assignment That is in Fact Interesting

I was instructed to read The Courage of Their Convictions as a summer reading assignment for AP US Government. Usually, I dread reading summer assignments, but this book was written in a way that made the cases relatable and interesting. I appreciated the fact that it had first hand accounts of the major player in each of the suits, the person who was defending their freedoms as an American. It wasn't written in a complex way, the text had a good flow to it. I felt like I was getting a proper idea of how the Supreme Court actually runs, and overall it was a worthwhile read.

Peter Irons, The Courage of Their Convictions (1990)

I have used this book three times in UC and CSU public law classes have taught: Intro to Judicial Process, Intro to Judicial Politics, and American Government. It is a personalized, almost biographical approach to leading constitutional rights cases, replete with the "human" as well as "legal" story behind each of the 16 cases. Though short on some of the important legal arguments at the Supreme Court level, it covers well the dispositons and judicial personalities of the lower courts. More importantly, however, it deals with the suffering and courage of the litigants themselves.
As such, it is a terrific book for both introductory American Government and judicial politics/process courses at the college level.
I have also used Irons' new book JIM CROW'S CHILDREN in my upper division course on Racial Equality and the U.S. Supreme Court at U.C., Irvine, just this summer.

The Courage of Their Convictions: Sixteen Americans

This was a fantastic book! People may know about some Supreme Court decisions and its impact but I do not think people understand why such important cases were brought before the Supreme Court. We never learn in school who these people were, (they are everyday people) and exactly how much courage and determination it takes to fight your case to the Supreme Court (after all I think S.C hears about 1% of all cases filed to the Court). Irons is an academic but boy you can read this in a day-this is not a dreaded book you are assigned to read for school.

I was given the honor to read an arc for a honest review for Bearing It For the Outlaw by Jenika Snow. This is my honest review.

The last of the originals. That is Drevin South. His original Grizzly MC brothers have all settled down and had families. They were all bear shifters and hard alpha bikers but they found their balance. They found their mate. Drevin was in his fifties now and he's almost given up hope. He longs for that connection. His bear has never claimed a mate. He had women but not the keeping kind. His only family are the mc brothers and their families.
Allie Harper is a twenty-eight year old with a horrid past. She is no saint or angle. She is running hard from her past. But it somehow still keeps her prisoner. She hopes her new friend never finds out. She lands in Steel Corner to try to piece her life back together.
When Drevin first lays eyes on Allie he has an animalistic attraction to her. He knows he wants her. He thinks his life may be too much for her so he abides his time.
Allie feels Drevin watching her as she is working. She is drawn to him. She feels he couldn't possibly be attracted to her. She has to keep her distance. She has to fight the smoldering attraction she has for the bear shifter.
Bearing It For the Outlaw is a great read. It is a mc/shifter novella but it is a great love story. It is a journey so worth the ride. It has the sizzling hot sex scenes. Did I say sizzling? But it has two people reaching out for each other.
Jenika Snow you did a great job again. Thank you for your hard work.

OMG AMAZING!!

This was a bitter sweet read from Jenika. I was glad that I was able to read ASAP. Of course I stopped all I was doing because I am obsessed with this series.

Drevin has a story I wasn't quite expecting to love so much.I think it was because he is the last member who docent have an old lady. I had no idea he was so deep. He has a love for Allie like I never seen coming from him it was AMAZING!

Jenika wrote an amazing book I adored it. Everything I ate up like a hot fudge sunday! LOVED IT!!!

a long time coming

I've been waiting a long time for this story. I've wanted his story since book 1 and it looked like he was never going to get his own story. Happy he finally did. For a while I wondered if it would be Tatum since she was older. I'm glad Allie was in her late 20s but the daughter of one of the guys.

I'd like to see where the story of Marcus & Corin go. I assume there will be a story for Mason. Quite possibly the darkest of the NG kids.
